Two weeks in

It's been two weeks now since I moved into the van full-time, and it's been pretty awesome. There are still some mechanical issues to work out, but just spending time in it and sleeping have been a great learning experience.

It's HOT

I cut out Reflectix panels to cover the windows. With twelve windows in the van (what!), they're a big source of heat intake. Some of the panels I'm leaving on all the time (like the two little sunroof ones on the top, and the side bedroom windows), others I'm pulling in and out as needed. You can feel the difference as soon as they go on, it's pretty amazing. I'm thinking about making some little vent holes in them for airflow, which is key. Trial and error.

I'm leaving the Maxxair vent open, though it doesn't have power yet. I have a little USB fan I point towards it to exhaust out heat, and I picked up a $40 small oscillating fan to move the air when I have the barn doors closed.

I also screened in the cab windows. I picked up a $1.25 screen kit from Dollarama and used it to cover both the driver and passenger side windows with removable screens. It makes a big difference in airflow!

Once I feel better about the engine and driving I hope to find a more remote spot to park. Some shade will help, and I want to put up some heat blocking canvas on the outside of the van so that heat doesn't transfer in.

That's it

As I started writing this post, I started to feel a little woozy. So I'm going to sign off for now, but I'll be back!
