The big update post

It's been awhile since I posted an update, so I thought I'd take a few minutes now to let you know what's been going on. There's good news! But first...

At the beginning of January, I was the passenger in a vehicle involved in a car accident, and I suffered a concussion. Since then I've been dealing with near-daily migraines, one of which lasted nearly three weeks and ended with me in the emergency room. Since then I've been doing physiotherapy and acupuncture to try to reduce my symptoms. It's been partly successful - the migraines aren't happening as often, but there's been some other things that have been making my life difficult.

The biggest one is depression. The deep, pervasive type that has really messed with my emotions and self-image. I began seeing a psychologist, as honestly some of the thoughts in my head were damn scary. But at least I know it's been caused by the concussion, which has a tendency to bring on or make worse mental health issues. It's also made it difficult for me to concentrate, where previously I could focus on one task for many hours. Now, I can't add double digit numbers in my head, or work at the computer for long periods.

To help fix this, I've been slowly re-introducing computer use into my routine, giving myself small tasks, and working pen and paper to try and get my memory back to where it should be. Yes, I'm giving myself homework.

Since I've been so focused on my recovery, I had to put planning to hit the road on pause, which set my timeline back. Where previously I'd aimed to have a van/vehicle to live/travel in by the middle of March, that's actually when I started looking, as prior to that I couldn't look at screens at all or risk permanent brain damage.

I looked at a bunch of vans online, saw a charter bus and Astro van conversion and a motorhome, but nothing really was what I was looking for, and would suit me to live in full-time as well as work and travel.

And then I found it.

There had been an ad on Kijiji for a 1993 Tioga 22' RV for a few days, and I tried to get my brother up to look at it outside of Aurora, but the timing didn't work. It was also priced higher than I could afford at the time, so I kept it bookmarked, but pretty much resigned it wasn't meant to be.

The end of the month came, and I had to leave my apartment for the new tenants to move in. I ended up renting a car from Enterprise for the weekend and driving from Ottawa to Aurora to spend the long weekend with family, as well as see some vans as the selection in the Greater Toronto Area is much bigger than in Ottawa. I emailed the RV and set up an appointment to see it.

I saw it, and it was love at first sight. I took my brother along as he's a mechanic, and we both looked the RV over top to bottom. Shawn checked out the mechanics outside, and I looked over everything inside. It was perfect.

I worked out a great deal with the current owner and gave a deposit. I'll be paying the remainder this weekend and picking it up.

Tenatively, I'm calling it Blue Moon, as I made the deal on the blue moon, and, well, it's blue.

Once I pick it up, I'll post more about the RV with pictures. I hope to get going with YouTube as well, even if it's just a simple walkthrough.

So yeah - very excited!
